Tino Martinez, 1B
|
The Yankees got a firsthand look at Tino's talent during
the 1995 postseason. Then with the Seattle Mariners, the
powerful first basemen led his team past New York in the
Division Series by batting a whopping .409 with nine hits
and five RBIs. In
December of that year Martinez was traded to New York where he had
to fill the enormous void left by retired Yankees legend
Don Mattingly. With an unassuming attitude, unwavering work
ethic and all-around skill, Martinez quickly proved that he
was up to the
task. 1998 stats: .281, 28 HR, 123
RBI
