Paul O'Neill, RF
|
Perhaps the most underrated Yankee, O'Neill brings
devastating power and productivity to the plate. In 1994,
his first season with New York, the rightfielder batted an
American League-best .359, and he has hit at least .300
every season since. Last year
O'Neill established a career high with 117 RBIs; his .428
average with men in scoring position led the majors. In May
O'Neill quietly secured a one-year, $6.25 million contract
extension (with a team option for 2000) that left the
Yankees and their fans
breathing a sigh of
relief. 1998 stats: .317, 24 HR, 116
RBI
