  A Winning Combination
Paul O'Neill

Paul O'Neill, RF
Perhaps the most underrated Yankee, O'Neill brings devastating power and productivity to the plate. In 1994, his first season with New York, the rightfielder batted an American League-best .359, and he has hit at least .300 every season since. Last year O'Neill established a career high with 117 RBIs; his .428 average with men in scoring position led the majors. In May O'Neill quietly secured a one-year, $6.25 million contract extension (with a team option for 2000) that left the Yankees and their fans breathing a sigh of relief.

1998 stats: .317, 24 HR, 116 RBI
