  A Winning Combination
Bernie Williams

Bernie Williams, CF
There are two sides to Bernie Williams. There is the self-effacing, glasses-wearing Williams who strums his classical guitar in the Yankees clubhouse. And there is the superstar. In 1996, his fourth full year with New York, the switch-hitting centerfielder blasted six postseason home runs (tying a major league record), was named MVP of the ALCS and hit .345 in 15 playoff games. Williams' intense focus and dedication to his game have paid off. His extraordinary skills plus his unusual grace and class combine to make Williams worthy of patrolling the ground where DiMaggio and Mantle once tread. Unfortunately for the Yankees, he's a free agent at the end of this season.

1998 stats: .339, 26 HR, 97 RBI
