I knew it was going to be a tough at-bat. I hadn't faced him in a couple of years, and he had his way with me early in his
career. I was looking for something to get in the air. The guys in front of me had good at-bats and made it all possible.''
Young was making his seventh career pinch-hit appearance and first since Aug. 2, 2002.
''I haven't really been in that situation,'' Young said. ''I was pretty jacked up. I made the effort to take some deep breaths
to calm down some.''
Neither Young nor
, two of the Rangers' four All-Stars, was able to start due to injuries.
Young's finger was stiff when he came to the ballpark, but he told manager
he would be available to pinch-hit late in the game. Bradley is slowed by a strained left quad.
Washington wasn't surprised Young came through in the clutch.
''That's why he's a pro and that's why people in Texas love him,'' Washington said. ''He goes out there every day and helps
his team win ballgames any way he can.''

to use them as a tool for me to get the team motivated.''
