There are still two months left in the season, but the Milwaukee Brewers aren't giving any indication that they're going to make a move up the standings.
The Houston Astros ' recent bevy of moves show they're certainly looking toward 2013.
Milwaukee will try to avoid a 10th loss in 11 games Monday night at Miller Park while the major league-worst Astros look to win two straight for the first time in more than a month.
The Brewers (45-56) were eight games out in the NL Central and six back of the second wild card at the All-Star break, but those deficits have since doubled. Another bullpen meltdown in Sunday's 11-10, 11-inning loss to Washington left the club a season-worst 11 games below .500.
"We battled to the end, we just didn't pitch well out of the bullpen again," manager Ron Roenicke said after his relievers yielded nine runs - eight in the last four innings - and blew a major league-leading 20th save.
While the slumping Brewers could be in sell mode with Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline approaching, the Astros (35-68) have been dealing for the past few weeks. After completing their fifth trade of the month earlier Sunday, sending third baseman Chris Johnson to Arizona for two prospects, the Astros defeated Pittsburgh 9-5 to end a team-record 12-game skid
"To go through a homestand like this (1-6), that's a big breath of fresh air to be able to (win) and to take it out on the road with us," manager Brad Mills told the Astros' official website.
Houston, though, hasn't won two straight since June 26-27, and the club is a major league-worst 10-41 on the road.
The Astros return to Milwaukee for the first time since ending a six-game road losing streak to the Brewers - and an 11-game overall skid in this matchup - with a 7-5 victory April 25.
Picking up another win at Miller Park could be a challenge as Houston opens a six-game trip with Bud Norris (5-8, 5.05 ERA) going for his first win since May 21.
The right-hander is 0-7 with a 7.43 ERA in nine starts since that victory, but he pitched seven innings of one-run ball in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Reds.
Norris, though, has a 9.53 ERA while losing his last six road starts. He's faced the Brewers twice this season, including a 5 2-3-inning outing April 24 when he was tagged for seven runs and nine hits in a 9-6 road loss.
Milwaukee will counter with Marco Estrada (0-4, 4.52), who hasn't won since Aug. 23.
This will be the right-hander's first start against Houston following six relief appearances. Estrada pitched three hitless frames in a 5-3, 10-inning road win over the Astros on July 8.
Third baseman Aramis Ramirez could return to the Brewers' lineup Monday after a sore left wrist limited him to pinch-hitting duties Sunday. Ramirez, who is batting .419 (18 for 43) with two homers and eight RBIs since July 17, is 5 for 14 with two homers and two doubles off Norris.
Ryan Braun and Corey Hart have also taken Norris deep twice, with Hart's two homers coming in 2012.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Even the shakiest of saves is worth celebrating for the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen these days.
Cody Ransom 's homer capped a four-run burst in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers held off the Houston Astros 8-7 Monday night.
The Brewers dismissed bullpen coach Stan Kyles before the game, then watched their relievers barely preserve this victory.
"Unbelievable, watching it all the way through," Axford said of the final play - a gem by shortstop Cesar Izturis . "Once it came down to the out punch by the umpire, it felt like we won game five of the NLDS. I don't think I have ever fist pumped as hard as I had for a save."
Milwaukee scored four times in the seventh for a 4-3 edge, but the Astros tied it in the eighth against Livan Hernandez . Ransom's three-run shot gave the Brewers an 8-4 lead in the bottom half before Houston rallied for three runs in the ninth against Kameron Loe and John Axford .
Axford got J.D. Martinez to ground out with runners at the corners for his 17th save in 24 chances.
Ryan Braun , who leads the NL with 28 home runs, sat out because of blisters on his left hand.
Houston starter Bud Norris allowed three runs and four hits in six innings, but remained without a win in his last 10 starts.
"Bud did a good job," Houston manager Brad Mills said. "We wanted to try to get him through that seventh inning, but walking that leadoff hitter hurt him. He pitched really well. He threw the ball really well."
Hernandez gave up the lead in the top of eighth when Jose Altuve led off the inning with a single off against Livan Hernandez (4-1) and scored on Steve Pearce 's double to tie it at four.
Milwaukee responded in its half.
Jonathan Lucroy led off with a hustle double off Francisco Cordero (1-3), lining the ball into left field and barely beating the throw into second with a head-first slide. Nyjer Morgan , attempting to bunt Lucroy over, reached when reliever Xavier Cedeno threw late to third. Lucroy scored when Cesar Izturis hit a dribbler in front of home plate that Cedeno couldn't pick up. Ransom followed with a 423-foot home run above the Brewers' bullpen in left.
Things got interesting again in the ninth.
With one out, Jordan Schafer walked and went to second on defensive indifference, scoring on Brian Bogusevic 's single off Kameron Loe . Altuve walked and scored on Justin Maxwell 's double.
Axford then came on, and Pearce hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to score Altuve. Axford then hit Brett Wallace with a pitch. J.D. Martinez lined a single to the hole between short and third. Izturis dove to make the play and fired a one-hopper to first to get Martinez, as Corey Hart barely held on to the ball - just another harrowing finish for the Brewers' bullpen.
`"Great play by Izzie. Great by Corey," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "I know it was a snowcone sitting up there in the top of his glove.
"Boy, they sure aren't easy. This is tough every night."
Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada , whose last win came on Aug. 23, 2011, allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, in seven innings, striking out six and walking one. The Astros scored runs on sacrifice flies by Pearce in the first and Altuve in the third, and Scott Moore added a solo homer in the seventh, his fifth and third against the Brewers.
Houston had lost a franchise-worst 12 in a row before beating the Pittsburgh Pirates , 9-5, on Sunday - the same day they announced they had traded third basemen Chris Johnson to the Arizona Diamondbacks for two prospects.
NOTES: Pearce made a great play in the sixth, leaping into the right-field wall and a cage-covered window to catch a fly ball from Hart. . Lucroy took to Twitter to react to Kyles' dismissal. "We are all to blame, not just one guy," Lucroy tweeted before the game. "Win as a team, lose as a team. Tough times don't last, tough people do. Let's get after it tonight." . The Astros recalled Brett Wallace from Triple-A Oklahoma City before the game, and he started at first base. To make room for Wallace, the club optioned utility man Brian Bixler to Oklahoma City. . Brewers CF Carlos Gomez was chosen NL co-Player of the Week. Gomez hit .346 with four home runs, 10 RBIs, 10 runs and three stolen bases in seven games last week.
