A new month has brought some renewed success for the Texas Rangers .
With Scott Feldman looking for another strong outing, the AL West-leading Rangers try for a fourth consecutive victory Saturday night against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
Texas (62-43) concluded July by losing eight of 12 but has been perfect in three August contests. Rangers starting pitchers allowed 29 runs over 21 2-3 innings while splitting a four-game set with Los Angeles this week, but Matt Harrison gave up two over 6 2-3 innings in Friday's 5-3 win at Kansas City.
Hoping to follow Harrison's outing with a solid one of his own, Feldman (5-6, 4.76 ERA) is 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA in his last six games - including a win in relief. Prior to that stretch, he had lost six straight starts while posting a 7.34 ERA.
The right-hander has allowed one run in 15 innings to win both of his starts since the All-Star break, possibly regaining a regular spot in the rotation following a season-ending injury to Colby Lewis .
"The main adjustment I've made was to have a better attitude and not get caught up in the rumors and when I'm going to pitch and when I'm not going to pitch," Feldman said. "I'm just worrying about having a good time and keep things simple."
Feldman gave up two unearned runs in 4 2-3 innings of a 3-1 loss to the Royals on May 14, dropping to 2-2 with a 2.97 ERA in five starts against them.
Teammate Mitch Moreland , who hit a three-run homer in the series opener, is 7 for 16 with six RBIs in five games since missing more than a month with a strained left hamstring.
Texas All-Star Josh Hamilton went 1 for 4 hours after he released a statement regarding his battle with some self-discipline issues, specifically attempting to quit chewing tobacco. He's hit .304 with five RBIS over the last five games after a 44-game stretch during which he hit .186.
Hamilton and the Rangers get their first look at Kansas City rookie Will Smith (2-3, 5.94), who tries for a third straight quality start Saturday.
"It's nothing really different," Smith told the Royals' official website about facing Texas. "You've still got a plan, still got to execute your pitches against them. They might have bigger names in their lineup, but it's nothing really different. You've still got to do your job."
After beating the Angels by giving up a run and two hits in seven innings of a 4-1 win July 24, the left-hander allowed three runs in six innings while not factoring in the decision of a 7-6 loss at Seattle on Sunday.
Smith, however, is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA at Kauffman Stadium.
Catcher Salvador Perez had three hits Friday for the Royals (44-61), who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Perez, who missed the first 2 1/2 months of the season while recovering from a knee injury, is batting .336 in 30 games.
Kansas City's Alex Gordon has hit .396 in his last 25 home games. He's 4 for 8 against Feldman.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Scott Feldman 's sharp turnaround has been a huge boost for the Texas Rangers .
The right-hander won his sixth straight decision, Josh Hamilton drove in two runs and Texas defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Saturday night.
Feldman (6-6) worked into the eighth inning and became the first pitcher in 29 years to win six consecutive decisions after starting the season 0-6. Doyle Alexander did it in 1983 with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.
"I've just sort of gone about my business and felt the same way the whole year," Feldman said. "It's just nice to get an opportunity to go in there and help out and keep my focus on that, making good pitches."
Feldman went 17-9 in 2009, but knee injuries the past two seasons set him back. This year, he returned to the rotation because of injuries to Rangers starters Neftali Feliz and Colby Lewis .
"It's been very timely," manager Ron Washington said. "He's been our security blanket, really. Things go wrong in the rotation and we've been able to just plug him and he eats up innings. He's executing his pitches really well."
Hamilton, who leads the majors with 90 RBIs, hit an opposite-field single in the third inning to score Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus . Kinsler singled with one out and went to third on Andrus' double.
Mike Olt , called up Thursday from Double-A, added two RBIs for the AL West leaders.
With closer Joe Nathan unavailable, Alexi Ogando worked around two singles in the ninth to earn his third save.
"It's like the `09 Feldman," Hamilton said. "He's throwing the ball good, mixing his pitches up well. He's getting the job done. He's keeping the ball down. He's not throwing it over the middle of the plate. Everything has got so much movement on it."
Feldman, who was 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in July, held Kansas City to six hits and two runs over 7 2-3 innings. The Royals, who lost for the 23rd time in 32 games, scored twice in the fifth on groundouts by Chris Getz and Alex Gordon .
"We did a pretty good job against him," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "He had a tremendous two-seamer, a tremendous splitter and a tremendous curve. He was really hard to hit and I think we did a good job of getting some hits off him."
Olt, who had 28 home runs and 82 RBIs with Double-A Frisco before his promotion, hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth and an RBI single with two outs in the sixth.
"A big sac fly, a big hit up the middle with two outs," Washington said. "That was huge. That gave us a little bit more of a cushion."
Royals rookie Will Smith (2-4) gave up four runs and eight hits over 5 2-3 innings in losing his third straight start.
The Rangers could have scored more runs in the third if not for a gaffe on the bases.
Hamilton stopped at second on Adrian Beltre 's single before Nelson Cruz 's grounder caromed off the glove of shortstop Alcides Escobar for an error. The Royals, however, converted that into a double play when Beltre was caught between second and third and tagged out. Cruz attempted to go to second on the play and was out to end the inning.
"We could have put more on the board in the third inning, but it just wasn't to be," Washington said.
NOTES: The Royals fired first base coach Doug Sisson and replaced him with Rusty Kuntz , who served in that capacity from 2008-10. "We felt a change was needed," Yost said. ... Nathan was unavailable again Saturday after throwing 62 pitches in two innings on Wednesday and Thursday. "That's a lot of pitches," he said. "I'm trying to get rid of some normal tightness and get back to throwing more free and easy. Two nights of breather will loosen me up." ... LF David Murphy remained in the Texas lineup, although the Royals started a left-hander. "He's hot," Washington said. "I'm going to ride him. At some point you have to take advantage of what guys are doing when they're hot." The left-handed hitting Murphy entered batting.378 against left-handers. ... Feldman has not pitched a complete game in 93 career starts, the third-longest active streak in the majors. ... LHP Derek Holland will make his sixth start Sunday for the Rangers since coming off the disabled list from shoulder fatigue. The Royals will start RHP Luke Hochevar , who is 2-0 with a 3.08 ERA in four career starts against the Rangers.
