The Atlanta Braves ' longest winning streak over the Philadelphia Phillies in 15 years came to an end in the middle game of their series at Citizens Bank Park.
The Braves seem to have a good shot of bouncing back in the finale.
Tim Hudson looks to win his fifth straight start and beat the Phillies for the third time in barely a month Wednesday night.
After reeling off seven consecutive victories over Philadelphia - its longest winning streak in the series since an eight-game run in 1997 - Atlanta had its bats silenced by Cole Hamels on Tuesday. The left-hander tossed a five-hitter for his fifth career shutout in handing the Braves a 3-0 loss.
It was just the third defeat in 14 games overall for Atlanta, which is still chasing Washington in the NL East but leading the wild-card race.
Since July 5, the Braves (63-47) have the majors' second-best record at 21-8, and they've enjoyed even greater success lately behind Hudson (11-4, 3.45 ERA), winning eight of his last nine starts.
Against Houston on Friday, Hudson earned his 100th win with Atlanta, yielding four hits and an unearned run over 7 1-3 innings of a 4-1 victory.
"Every time he pitches, we expect that from him," teammate Martin Prado said.
He's nearly been living up to that standard, posting a 2.30 ERA in winning his last four starts and a 1.26 mark while winning his last five on the road.
The right-hander is 5-0 with a 2.58 ERA in his last six starts overall - a run that began in Philadelphia on July 6, when he gave up four hits in seven innings of a 5-0 win. On July 29, Hudson allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings during a 6-2 home victory over the Phillies.
He's gone 5-1 with a 3.08 ERA in his last eight starts in the series.
Since 2009, Jimmy Rollins is 1 for 23 against Hudson while Chase Utley is 4 for 23. Ryan Howard has found some recent success in the matchup, going 9 for 27 with three homers and two doubles over the last four seasons.
Howard belted a two-run homer as part of a three-run first inning Tuesday as the Phillies won for the third time in four games.
They may be able to stay hot given Kyle Kendrick 's track record against Atlanta.
Kendrick (4-9, 4.45) is 5-1 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 career starts in the series, including a 0.95 mark in the last six.
The right-hander got the call to start Friday against Arizona after Joe Blanton was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers 2 1/2 hours before the game. He did a decent job given the circumstances, permitting three runs - two earned - and five hits without a walk in four innings of a 4-2 loss.
It was his first start since facing the Braves on July 6, when he matched Hudson with seven scoreless innings before Philadelphia's bullpen faltered. Kendrick threw eight shutout innings over seven relief appearances between starts.
"I got in a groove, but it's good to be starting again," he said. "I have to go out there and pitch good."
He may want to be wary of Prado, who is 7 for 15 with a homer in their matchups. Chipper Jones is 8 for 24 with three doubles and two homers versus Kendrick, but just 2 for 12 over the last four seasons.
Jones has hit safely in 15 of his last 17 games, batting .345 with seven doubles and 14 RBIs in that stretch. He's hitting .400 in seven games against the Phillies this season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Dan Uggla got the big hit that can bust a slump.
Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run double in the seventh after Tim Hudson blew a five-run lead and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 12-6 Wednesday night.
Ryan Howard 's three-run homer off Hudson during a five-run fifth tied it at 6, but the wild card-leading Braves scored four runs after Antonio Bastardo (2-4) got the first two outs in the seventh.
Michael Bourn had three hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three, and Uggla also had three hits.
"It's been just a constant grind for me," said Uggla, who entered the game hitting .136 (23 for 169) since June 6. "I've been struggling way too long and my teammates have picked me up."
Chad Durbin (4-1) tossed a perfect sixth to earn the win.
Hudson allowed six runs and six hits in 4 1-3 innings. It was his second-shortest outing of the season.
"In the fifth, I don't think I made a good pitch the whole inning," Hudson said. "I was spotting everything the first four innings. I felt good. I thought I would be going seven or eight."
The Braves chased Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick in the fourth, taking a 6-1 lead that seemed insurmountable with Hudson on the mound. The three-time All-Star righty is 132-3 when given a lead of three or more.
But Jimmy Rollins got a rally started in the fifth with an RBI double. Domonic Brown followed with an RBI double to cut it to 6-3. After Chase Utley was hit by a pitch, Howard took Hudson deep to left-center to tie it at 6.
The comeback took Kendrick off the hook. He gave up six runs and seven hits in 3 1-3 innings.
Jason Heyward 's two-out double in the seventh started Atlanta's rally. Chipper Jones was intentionally walked and Freddie Freeman worked a walk. Uggla then ripped one down the third-base line to clear the bases and knock out Bastardo.
Uggla, the NL starting All-Star second baseman, has 11 hits and 11 RBIs in the last 10 games. None were bigger than this hit.
"It was definitely a confidence booster," he said. "Any time you come through like that, it lets you relax a little."
The Braves added another run in the inning off Josh Lindblom and two more in the eighth.
Rollins hit his 40th career leadoff homer, but the Braves answered with four runs in the second.
Freeman walked and Uggla singled with one out. Both advanced on a wild pitch that proved costly because David Ross followed with a grounder to shortstop that could've been an inning-ending double play. Instead, Freeman scored on the out.
After Paul Janish walked, Hudson hit a drive over center fielder John Mayberry Jr.'s head to knock in a pair. Kendrick then walked Bourn and Martin Prado singled to right. Hudson was safe at the plate when catcher Erik Kratz dropped the throw by Nate Schierholtz .
Bourn connected in the fourth to extend Atlanta's lead to 6-1. The two-time Gold Glove winner also ran down a couple balls in center field and robbed Erik Kratz of extra bases and a go-ahead RBI in the fifth.
"Unless you see him play center field every day, you can't appreciate him," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
The last-place Phillies lost their first series since trading Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence on July 31. The five-time defending NL East champions fell to 50-61. They lost just 60 games last year.
"That's the inconsistency," manager Charlie Manuel said. "Bullpen had been doing real good. We came back, but still couldn't hold them."
Notes: Rollins is fifth on the all-time list for leadoff homers, four behind Brady Anderson for fourth place. ... Howard is 20 for 61 with seven homers and 17 RBIs. ... The Phillies had a 1.45 bullpen ERA since July 20 before allowing five earned runs to the Braves. ... The Phillies are 3-9 vs. the Braves this season. ... Atlanta's bullpen has a major league-best 1.59 ERA since July 3. ... The Braves are 41-13 in games in which Bourn has a hit and scores. ... Both teams are off Thursday. Paul Maholm (9-7, 3.75) takes the mound when the Braves visit the New York Mets on Friday night. ... Roy Halladay (5-6, 4.02) pitches against St. Louis in a rematch of Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS that he lost 1-0 to Chris Carpenter .
