Matt Harvey has New York feeling good about the future, but Kelly Shoppach 's surprisingly clutch performance has the Mets on their longest winning streak in two months.
The Philadelphia Phillies were scheduled to send Cole Hamels to the mound to stop it, but the star left-hander won't be pitching due to a gastrointestinal illness.
Harvey will try to lead the Mets to a fourth straight win, and New York catches a break by not having to face the red-hot Hamels on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
New York (60-69) has won three in a row for the first time since a four-game run June 27-30. The current surge, which includes Tuesday's 9-5, 10-inning victory over Philadelphia (61-68), has been a welcome change for a team that previously endured a 4-14 slump.
Shoppach helped keep the Mets rolling in the opener of this three-game series, hitting a tying double in the eighth and a two-run homer in the 10th after Ike Davis ' RBI double gave them the lead for good.
Shoppach was 4 for 17 with one homer and seven strikeouts in his first six games with New York after being acquired from Boston two weeks ago.
It's uncertain if Shoppach will be behind the plate again, but Harvey (2-3, 2.75 ERA) is slated to take the mound as New York goes for an eighth win in nine tries in Philadelphia.
The right-hander has posted a 1.32 ERA over his last two starts, going 1-0 with 17 strikeouts and three walks in 13 2-3 innings. He's struck out 43 in 36 innings since being called up, the most through six games in team history.
Harvey - who's gone 5 for 11 at the plate - struck out nine while allowing one run and three hits in six innings against Colorado last Wednesday.
"Extremely impressed with the way he handled himself, pitching out of trouble, electric stuff again," manager Terry Collins said. "He asks all the right questions. He pays attention. He's the first guy on the bench before the game starts. He's there throughout the game. He listens. He wants to learn.
"He truly is living up to that, 'I'm not here to be one of the guys. I'm here to be THE guy.' And we think we've got some more coming."
The Phillies have won each of Hamels' last four starts while he posted a 1.71 ERA, but the 14-game winner won't get a chance to equal his career high for victories Wednesday. Instead, Tyler Cloyd will be called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make his major league debut.
Cloyd, a 25-year-old right-hander, was 15-1 with a 2.26 ERA in the minors this season, including 12-1 with a 2.35 ERA at Triple-A.
Ryan Howard had a grand slam Tuesday, and he's batted .303 with four homers and 13 RBIs in his last eight games against the Mets.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Maybe a month in the minors was all Lucas Duda needed.
Duda hit a two-run homer, Matt Harvey had another sharp outing and the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 Wednesday night for their fourth straight win.
Duda, recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, also made an excellent catch in left field to preserve the lead and even stole a base.
"Just getting used to it again," he said.
The Mets have won five straight in Philadelphia and seven of eight overall this season.
Harvey (3-3) allowed two runs and six hits, striking out six in 6 1-3 innings. He also had an RBI single. The rookie has a 2.76 ERA in seven starts.
"He has extraordinary stuff," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He pitched pretty well."
Tyler Cloyd (0-1) was decent in his major league debut filling in for Cole Hamels , who was scratched from the start because of a gastrointestinal illness.
Cloyd allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. The 25-year-old righty was 15-1 with a 2.26 ERA in the minors this season, including 12-1 with a 2.35 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
"It was crazy fun. It was exciting," Cloyd said.
Josh Edgin , Robert Carson and Jon Rauch combined to get five outs before Frank Francisco finished for his 22nd save in 25 tries.
Both teams are tied for third place in the NL East. They trail St. Louis by 10 games for the second wild-card spot with 32 games remaining, making it unlikely they'll be playing in the postseason.
The lead went back-and-forth over the first three innings until Duda put the Mets up to stay with his 13th homer and first since July 6 before he was sent down later that month. Duda faced Cloyd in the minors.
"I knew he has a cutter and he spotted it," Duda said.
After Jimmy Rollins hit an RBI double to put Philadelphia up 2-1 in the second, Duda ripped a line drive out to right to give the Mets a 3-2 lead in the third.
Duda kept it at 3-2 with a running catch on Ryan Howard 's liner to deep left with two on and two outs in the fifth.
"That was a play I should make," he said. "It was nothing spectacular."
Harvey helped himself in the second with a hit. Scott Hairston led off with a double and scored on Harvey's one-out single to left to tie it at 1.
Harvey is 6 for 13 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.
"When you have runners in scoring position, you have to do whatever you can to get them across," Harvey said. "I got a pitch I can hit."
The Phillies went up 1-0 in the first on Howard's sacrifice fly. Juan Pierre lined a single off the right-field fence, advanced to third on Chase Utley 's single and scored on Howard's fly.
