The AL West-leading Texas Rangers just held on to win their 10th consecutive series against the Houston Astros .
Given their history against Jordan Lyles , the Rangers could be in a great position to earn the sweep Sunday.
Since an 8-2 season-opening loss at Houston (10-27), Texas (23-13) has won four straight against the AL's newest team. The Rangers, winners of six of eight overall, improved to 23-6 in this series since 2009 with Saturday's 8-7 victory.
Texas scored six runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before the Astros rallied with three in the final two innings.
"We'll see what happens tomorrow," said right fielder Nelson Cruz , who homered for the second straight night. "Hopefully we can sweep the series."
The Rangers, now 12-5 against divisional foes, get their first look at Lyles (1-0, 4.50 ERA) since tagging the 22-year-old for five runs - three earned - in a 6-2 home win June 15.
Lyles has an 8.22 ERA while losing his last three starts versus Texas.
The right-hander, though, has pitched well in two starts since being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 2. Lyles has gone five innings each time, striking out 12 with three walks. He retired 14 of the last 17 he faced in Tuesday's 7-6 home win over the Los Angeles Angels .
"I threw the ball a little bit better tonight than I did last outing (a 7-3, 14-inning home loss to Detroit on May 2), just from the fact of being down, 3-0, and putting up some zeros against a pretty good offense to give our team chance to win," Lyles told the Astros' official website.
Manager Bo Porter pulled the plug on Lyles' last start after 82 pitches because he wants to ease him back into the rotation, but if the right-hander has it going Sunday, it could be difficult to take him out early again given the Astros' bullpen woes. Houston's relievers have a 9.82 ERA over the last three games.
Despite giving up a season-worst four runs Saturday, the Rangers' bullpen is one of the majors' best with a 3.06 ERA.
That won't mean much Sunday if scheduled starter Nick Tepesch (2-3, 4.50) has another rough outing. The rookie right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA in two May starts - Texas has scored twice in both games - after walking a season-high four in Monday's 9-2 road loss to the Chicago Cubs .
Tepesch, who has yet to face Houston, could get a little more run support this time as the Rangers are averaging 5.8 runs and 10.3 hits during their winning streak over Houston.
Rangers DH/first baseman Lance Berkman is 7 for 14 during that stretch after going 1 for 2 with a homer Saturday. He's hit safely in 17 straight games in Houston, with the first three of that run coming while with the Astros.
Berkman has never faced Lyles.
Cruz and third baseman Adrian Beltre , who also homered Saturday, have 12 at-bats against the right-hander to lead Texas. Cruz has four hits, including a home run, while Beltre has three singles.
Astros third baseman Matt Dominguez went 2 for 4 with his first two-homer game Saturday. He was 1 for 10 in his previous three home games versus Texas.
The Rangers, winners of 14 of 17 in Houston, can record their first four-game win streak outside Arlington since June 10-20.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Texas manager Ron Washington wasn't sure what to expect from a couple of reserves he started on Sunday to give his Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler a day off.
The veteran manager was pleasantly surprised.
Leonys Martin and rookie Leury Garcia combined to get five hits, score six runs and drive in two as the Rangers completed a three-game sweep by romping past the Houston Astros 12-7.
Adrian Beltre 's three-run homer was one of his four hits, and David Murphy and Martin also homered for Texas.
"The type of team that I have this year, guys have been getting opportunities to play a little more than I have in the past," Washington said. "So I think they're more prepared and more ready to go up there when there's opportunity for them to play and do the job."
He was particularly impressed with Garcia, who had three hits and scored four runs - both career highs - to become the first Texas rookie to record both since Jarrod Saltalamacchia in 2007.
" Leury Garcia was the one guy today that I didn't expect to make a whole lot of contact because he's the one guy that's in that lineup who hasn't been doing a whole lot of playing," Washington said. "He had a good game: scored four runs, got three hits, stole a bag, played good defense. That's what you like to have in extra guys."
Garcia was excited to contribute.
"It was awesome," he said. "I feel really good. I had a few days that I hadn't played but I was waiting for my time and I took advantage of it."
The Rangers set a season high for runs, and did it quickly. Martin led off the fifth with a home run and Beltre connected later in the inning for a 12-1 lead.
Beltre doubled twice and drove in four runs. He homered for the second straight day, hitting a drive that was originally called a double and changed to a homer after the umpires went to video review. Beltre connected off Edgar Gonzalez , signed by the Astros earlier in the day.
Beltre has heated up lately with 12 of his 23 RBIs coming in the last 10 games. He's raised his average from .214 to .260 in that span.
"Outstanding. Certainly what we needed," Washington said of Beltre's day. "He's been swinging the bat well and that average is climbing and RBIs are starting to pile up. He's my RBI guy, so I'm very happy."
Chris Carter hit a three-run homer for Houston, Brandon Barnes added a two-run shot and Jason Castro had a solo homer. The Astros have dropped 10 of 12.
At 10-28, the Astros are off to their worst 38-game start, according to STATS, breaking their 12-26 mark from 1967 and 1975.
Murphy's two-run homer came in a four-run third. Beltre hit an RBI double as the Rangers added three in the fourth, and Texas broke it open in the fifth.
Nick Tepesch (3-3) rebounded from two rough starts to allow four hits and one run in six innings, striking out a career-high eight.
The Rangers jumped on starter Jordan Lyles (1-1) for 11 hits and a career-high eight runs in four innings. He also balked home a run.
"I wasn't throwing the ball over the plate," he said. "I was missing by a little bit and missing by a lot, they hit me around pretty good, then I walked some guys, and they hit me around some more. The loss is definitely on my shoulders, and I've got to do a better job of competing."
Lyles was replaced by Gonzalez and he didn't fare much better, allowing six hits and four runs in four innings.
Lance Berkman extended his hitting streak at Minute Maid Park to 18 games with an RBI double in the first inning to make it 1-0.
Garcia singled to start the third, stole second base and advanced to third on an error by catcher Castro. Garcia scored on a groundout by Berkman.
Beltre doubled and scored on a one-out single by Craig Gentry in the third. Murphy then launched a 91 mph fastball into the seats in right field to extend the lead to 5-0.
Tepesch had allowed 11 runs and 14 hits in his last two games - both losses - but he was in control from the beginning on Sunday.
Carlos Pena singled with one out in the first inning, and the Astros didn't get another hit until Castro's homer with two outs in the fourth inning made it 8-1.
Martin opened the fifth with a towering homer to right field before back-to-back singles by Andrus and Garcia. Beltre connected on his homer and feel to his knee at the end of the swing before hustling to his feet. It was initially ruled a double, but a video review showed the ball hit on the center field wall above the yellow line and it was changed.
Castro had an RBI single in the eighth before Carter hit his team-leading ninth homer to the Crawford Boxes in left field off Derek Lowe to cut the lead to 12-5.
Barnes got Houston within 12-7 with a two-run homer in the ninth.
