LAKELAND, Florida (Ticker) -- Chad Mottola hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and three pitchers made it stand up as a split squad of Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Detroit Tigers, 4-2, in Grapefruit League play. Looking for time in a crowded outfield, Mottola hit his fourth homer of the spring off Tigers starter Jeff Weaver to open the scoring. Luke Prokopec and two relievers held on for the win. Prokopec picked up the decision after allowing a run and three hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Chris Peters gave up a run in 2 2/3 innings and Bob File tossed 1 1/3 for the save. Weaver fell to 1-2 this spring after yielding four runs and four hits in six innings. Wendell Magee and Shane Halter hit solo homers for the Blue Jays. |
