VIERA, Florida (Ticker) -- Kevin Millar's second homer of the game, a two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth inning, enabled the Florida Marlins to salvage a 7-7 tie with the New York Mets in the Grapefruit League. Millar, who was 3-for-5 with four RBI, tied the game with a homer off Tyler Yates. The Mets had had taken a 7-5 lead with three runs in the top of the ninth off Braden Looper. Timo Perez and Joe McEwing delivered run-scoring doubles and Vance Wilson followed with an RBI single. Jay Payton homered and doubled in three at-bats for the Mets. Each starter went five innings. Brad Penny allowed three runs -- two earned -- and seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. The Mets' Steve Trachsel was tagged for five runs and eight hits. |
