DAVENPORT, Florida (Ticker) -- Second baseman Marlon Anderson committed two of his four errors in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing the Kansas City Royals to score the tying run in a 4-4 Grapefruit League tie with the Philadelphia Phillies. With two outs in the ninth, Darren McCarty walked and went to second on Raul Ibanez's single. Anderson bobbled Kent Pellow's ground ball to load the bases, then threw away Dee Brown's slow bouncer, allowing McCarty to score the tying run. Ibanez hit a two-run homer, his third of the spring. Mike Lieberthal had a solo shot for the Phillies, while Anderson collected two hits and stole two bases. Both starters pitched well. Philadelphia's David Coggin allowed one run and six hits over five innings. Kansas City's Chris George also worked five innings, giving up one run and five hits. Carlos Febles collected three hits for the Royals, while Jimmy Rollins and Lieberthal had two hits apiece for the Phillies. |
