DAVENPORT, Florida (Ticker) -- Orlando Hernandez won for the fourth time in as many decisions and got a boost from his bullpen as the New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals, 7-4, to extend their Grapefruit League winning streak to nine games. Hernandez allowed all four runs and six hits in five innings, walking two and striking out five, as he continued his fight for a spot in the rotation. Randy Choate, Jay Tessmer and Mike Stanton combined for four hitless innings, with Stanton striking out two in the ninth for his second save. New York broke it open with a four-run third as Jorge Posada had a bases-loaded walk, Robin Ventura delivered an RBI single and John Vander Wal lifted a sacrifice fly. Posada went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Royals starter Paul Byrd went three innings and gave up five runs -- four earned -- and five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Joe Randa homered and drove in three runs and Carlos Febles hit a solo shot for Kansas City. |
