FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (Ticker) -- Scott Erickson pitched more than six innings in his third straight spring start as the Baltimore Orioles edged the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 4-3, in a Grapefruit League game. Erickson, who missed all of last season following "Tommy John" surgery, threw six scoreless innings before yielding three runs in the seventh. In 6 2/3 innings, he allowed nine hits. Buddy Groom and Willis Roberts combined to throw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Jeff Conine, who signed a two-year contract extension earlier Friday, had an RBI double in a two-run first inning for Baltimore. Melvin Mora doubled twice and scored two runs for the Orioles. Randy Winn went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple for the Devil Rays. Ben Grieve doubled in a run and scored on a single by Steve Cox in Tampa Bay's three-run seventh before Erickson departed. Travis Harper started for Tampa Bay and allowed three runs in three innings. |
