LAKELAND, Florida (Ticker) -- Luis Alicea went 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead a 14-hit attack as the Kansas City Royals edged the Detroit Tigers, 8-7, in exhibition play. Carlos Beltran added two hits and two stolen bases for the Royals, who scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh for an 8-4 lead. David McCarty and A.J. Hinch each had a pair of hits and an RBI. Jeff Suppan picked up the win, giving up four runs and eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts over six innings. Rick DeHart recorded the final two outs for the save. Jacob Cruz had three of Detroit's 12 hits. Mike Rivera collected two hits and two RBI and Michael Rabelo drove in two runs for the Tigers. Danny Patterson suffered the loss after allowing three runs and five hits in the sixth inning. Detroit used seven pitchers. |
