KISSIMMEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Brian Hunter and Jeff Bagwell combined for seven of Houston's 19 hits as the Astros withstood a ninth-inning rally and defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-7, in a Grapefruit League contest. Hunter went 4-for-5 and Bagwell added three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning. Richard Hidalgo, Geoff Blum, Adam Everett and starting pitcher Wade Miller had two hits apiece. Miller, who picked up his third win of the spring, allowed one run and five hits in six innings. He struck out six. Closer Billy Wagner retired just one batter and was tagged for four runs and three hits. Jim Mann followed and recorded the last two outs for the save. Wagner also walked one and threw a wild pitch. Donnie Sadler and Josue Espada drove in two runs for the Royals. Kansas City starter Chris George gave up five runs and eight hits in three innings. |
