DUNEDIN, Florida (Ticker) -- Jeff Weaver's arm is alive and well. Weaver pitched six scoreless innings and Mike Rivera continued his solid spring with two hits and three RBI, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 9-4 Grapefruit League romp over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Tigers' ace, Weaver gave up three singles and struck out six without a walk. A week ago, the righthander tossed three perfect innings before serving up a grand slam to Chad Mottola and leaving with a "dead arm." Rivera, who likely earned a roster spot following Saturday's trade of catcher Javier Cardona to San Diego, fueled a 16-hit attack as seven Tigers drove in at least one run. Bobby Higginson, Dmitri Young, Brian Rios, Jacob Cruz and Oscar Salazar also had two hits apiece. Blue Jays starter Roy Halladay allowed four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out three. Pedro Borbon surrendered four runs and four hits while retiring just one batter in the ninth. Raul Mondesi had two hits and two RBI for Toronto. |
