FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (Ticker) -- Jose Leon singled in Larry Bigbie with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Baltimore Orioles rallied for a 2-1 Grapefruit League victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Bigbie doubled off loser Dave Veres and scored on a single to right-center by Leon, a non-roster player. Baltimore fell behind in the fourth inning, but Melvin Mora hit his second spring homer in the sixth to tie it. Orioles starter Rodrigo Lopez was solid for four innings, allowing one run and four hits and two strikeouts. Erik Bedard, Charles Marshall and B.J. Ryan combined on four hitless innings before Jorge Julio pitched around two hits in the ninth for the win. Woody Williams was in midseason form for St. Louis, yielding Mora's homer and just one other hit in six innings with three walks and a strikeout. Tino Martinez singled, doubled and scored the Cardinals' lone run on a two-base hit by Jim Edmonds. |
