TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Ted Lilly continued his strong spring with five hitless innings as the New York Yankees posted a 5-1 Grapefruit League victory over the Cleveland Indians.

Lilly, who walked two and struck out three, lowered his spring ERA to 0.84. He has allowed only two earned runs and 15 hits in 21 1/3 innings.

The Indians loaded the bases in the fourth, but Lilly got out of the jam when rookie right fielder Marcus Thames made a running catch of Karim Garcia's line drive near the right field wall for the final out of the inning.

The Yankees staked Lilly to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jason Giambi, who entered the game with just six hits in 33 at-bats, started the uprising with an RBI double.

Juan Rivera and Gerald Williams added solo homers for the Yankees in the fourth and seventh, respectively.

Indians starter C.C. Sabathia suffered the loss, yielding four runs and five hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Adrian Hernandez tossed two innings in relief of Lilly, allowing one run and four hits. Jay Tessmer and Mike Stanton followed with scoreless innings.
