BRADENTON, Florida (Ticker) -- Even Dave Burba is contributing offensively for the potent Texas Rangers. Burba helped himself with a solo homer and allowed two unearned runs over three innings before leaving with a strained hamstring as the Rangers pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-2, in a Grapefruit League rout. Burba was injured while legging out a double in the top of the fourth. Juan Gonzalez supported his former Cleveland Indians' teammate with a three-run blast in the five-run fourth that extended Texas' lead to 9-2. Michael Young had three hits and scored four runs at the top of the order and Carl Everett was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Anthony Telford, John Rocker, Juan Moreno, Steve Woodard and Randy Flores combined to give up three hits over the final six innings for the Rangers. Pirates starter Kip Wells was pounded for nine runs -- seven earned -- and 11 hits in four innings. Pokey Reese, Brian Giles and Jason Kendall had two hits apiece for the Pirates. |
