LAKELAND, Florida (Ticker) -- Jeff D'Amico pitched six scoreless innings and Jorge Toca homered and drove in a pair of runs to give the New York Mets a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the Grapefruit League. D'Amico, an injury-plagued righthander, made a strong case for a berth in the Mets' rotation by allowing just three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Bruce Chen pitched a scoreless eighth for the win and Grant Roberts worked the ninth for the save to complete the four-hitter. Toca homered in the second off Jose Lima and added an RBI double off Tigers closer Matt Anderson in the two-run ninth. Lima allowed one run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. |
