FORT MYERS, Florida (Ticker) -- Brian Giles hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Craig Wilson had three hits to power the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Giles connected in the seventh inning off LaTroy Hawkins to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. Pittsburgh added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Wilson. Winner Jimmy Anderson pitched six effective innings, allowing two runs and seven hits. Twins starter Rich Reed allowed one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Pirates right fielder Armando Rios left the game in the seventh after a collision with Twins first baseman Michael Cuddyer. Rios suffered a right knee contusion and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday. |
