BRADENTON, Florida (Ticker) -- Brian Lesher belted a pair of homers and knocked in five runs, powering the Toronto Blue Jays to a 10-6 Grapefruit League victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. A backup infielder, Lesher smacked a two-run homer in the third inning and three-run shot in the next frame off Pirates starter Ron Villone. Lesher finished 3-for-5 and also scored three runs. DeWayne Wise went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Felipe Lopez had three hits and scored three times for Toronto. Blue Jays starter Brian Cooper recorded the win, allowing four runs and six hits in three innings. Villone, the Pirates' Opening Day starter, was ripped for five runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings while allowing three homers. The veteran lefthander struck out four without a walk. Jason Kendall had three hits and Rob Mackowiak went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Pirates. |
