FORT MYERS, Florida (Ticker) -- Trot Nixon homered in a three-run seventh inning as the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 5-4 Grapefruit League victory over the Cincinnati Reds. All three runs came off Jose Rijo, the veteran righthander who was told last week that he had earned a spot on the Cincinnati roster. Minor leaguers Melvin Dorta and Tomayne Brown added RBI hits in the decisive seventh. Pedro Martinez of Boston tuned up for his Opening Day start by pitching four scoreless innings. He allowed six hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Ugueth Urbina pitched the fifth for the Red Sox and allowed a three-run homer to Adam Dunn. Aaron Boone and Juan Encarnacion added a pair of hits for the Reds while Nomar Garciaparra had two hits for Boston. Red starter Joey Hamilton worked five innings and allowed two runs and three hits. |
