DAVENPORT, Florida (Ticker) -- Jeff Suppan continued to tune up for the regular season by pitching seven strong innings as the Kansas City Royals posted a 2-1 Grapefruit League victory over the Cleveland Indians. Slated to start the Royals' opener on Monday against Minnesota, Suppan made his last spring start a successful one as he allowed one run and four hits. The veteran righthander walked one and struck two. Michael Tucker and Brent Mayne each had an RBI for the Royals. Cleveland starter Ryan Drese, who pitched himself into the rotation with a strong spring, lost for the first time in five decisions. The righthander gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings. Omar Vizquel went 2-for-2 and Ricky Gutierrez had an RBI single for Cleveland. |
