TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Shane Spencer drove in two runs to cap a five-run eighth inning as the New York Yankees recorded an 8-7 Grapefruit League victory over the Detroit Tigers. Spencer singled up the middle with two outs off lefthander Matt Miller and New York took advantage of five errors by Detroit. Juan Rivera hit a two-run homer for the Yankees. Roger Clemens, who was named as the starting pitcher on Opening Day for New York, allowed two runs and four hits in five innings, striking out eight without a walk. Nate Cornejo allowed two unearned runs and four hits in five innings and Shane Halter homered in the fourth inning for the Tigers. |
