ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- Chris Gomez delivered an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rallied from a five-run deficit for a 7-6 Grapefruit League victory over the Detroit Tigers. Hitless in his first three at-bats, Gomez came through against Juan Acevedo, giving Tampa Bay just its ninth win in 25 spring games. Brent Abernathy had three hits and scored twice and Ben Grieve chipped in two hits and an RBI for the Devil Rays. Opening Day starter Tanyon Sturtze struggled in his final Grapefruit League start, allowing all six runs -- five earned -- and 10 hits in five innings. But Esteban Yan, Eddie Zambrano and Travis Phelps combined for four hitless innings for Tampa Bay. Brian Rios and Jose Macias each had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers. |
