LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- Brian Jordan belted a three-run homer as the Los Angeles Dodgers built a big lead and held on for a 7-5 exhibition victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in a battle of split squads. Jordan connected in the third inning off starter Miguel Batista to give Los Angeles a 5-0 cushion. An RBI single in the fifth by Adrian Beltre helped stretch it to seven runs. But newly anointed closer Eric Gagne surrendered four runs in the ninth as Lyle Overbay and pitcher Mark Holzemer delivered RBI singles for the Diamondbacks. While Gagne struggled, Dodgers starter Hideo Nomo was solid, striking out five and allowing four hits in six scoreless innings. Byung-Hyun Kim, Mike Myers and Holzemer each tossed a scoreless inning for Arizona. |
