TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds battered Orlando Hernandez early and Mariano Rivera late in a 16-4 Grapefruit League rout of the New York Yankees.

Aaron Boone's three-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning against Hernandez and the Reds scored six times against Rivera in the ninth. Baseball's premier closer retired just one batter and gave up five hits and a walk.

Jason LaRue had a double, two singles and two RBI and Jeff Frye, Gookie Dawkins, Adam Dunn and Wilton Guerrero also drove in two runs apiece for Cincinnati. Newly acquired Reggie Taylor contributed to the 16-hit attack by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

His spot in the rotation secure, Hernandez gave up five runs -- four earned -- and six hits in five innings and suffered his first loss in five spring decisions.

Reds starter Elmer Dessens allowed three runs -- two earned -- and four hits in four innings. Luis Pineda, Gabe White, Scott Williamson, Brandon Kolb and Danny Graves combined to yield an unearned run over the final five frames.

Enrique Wilson and Derek Jeter hit solo homers for New York.
