HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Jose Offerman doubled, homered and drove in four runs in a nine-run first inning as the Boston Red Sox ended their 2002 Grapefruit League season with a 13-3 drubbing of the Houston Astros. Offerman had an RBI double and a three-run home run and Tony Clark belted a two-run homer for Boston, which hosts Toronto on Monday. Reliever-turned-starter Derek Lowe was sharp for the Red Sox, allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings to secure the victory. Lance Berkman was Houston's lone bright spot, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Astros starter Tim Redding was roughed up for six runs on five hits while retiring just one batter. Houston will host Milwaukee on Tuesday. |
