ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Rusty Greer's squib with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Santiago Perez with the winning run as the Texas Rangers edged the New York Mets, 3-2, at the Ballpark in Arlington. Perez opened the inning by reaching on an infield hit, was sacrificed over, took third on a groundout and scored when Greer's dribble rolled between the mound and first base. Mets reliever Pete Walker was unable to pick the ball cleanly as Perez crossed the plate. Rafael Palmeiro homered for Texas, which had six hits. Doug Davis started for the Rangers and tossed three scoreless innings. Ismael Valdes followed and allowed two runs over five innings. New York used eight relievers with Mike Bascik tossing two hitless innings. Mark Johnson and Roberto Alomar had RBI doubles in the seventh for the Mets. |
