Kicked out Dodgers pitcher Park ejected after throwing forearmPosted: Saturday June 05, 1999 06:42 PM
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park was ejected from Saturday's game against the Anaheim Angels after throwing a forearm and a kick at Anaheim pitcher Tim Belcher. The altercation unfolded after Park's sacrifice bunt with one out in the fifth inning in a game the Angels led 4-0 thanks to Matt Walbeck's grand slam an inning earlier. Belcher fielded Park's bunt and tagged him out. After a brief exchange of words, Park forearmed Belcher in the face and followed that up with a kick-boxing move that connected before Belcher wrestled him to the ground. Both benches and bullpens emptied, but there were no further incidents. The game was held up for only about five minutes. Park was ejected after the umpires conferred briefly. Belcher, apparently uninjured, retired Eric Young on a fly to center to end the inning. Earlier in the game, Park had knocked down Randy Velarde twice with pitches near his head. Two years ago, Park was involved in an altercation with Tony Phillips during an Angels-Dodgers game in Anaheim after hitting Phillips with a pitch. On April 23 of this season, Park surrendered two grand slams in the same inning to Cardinals third baseman Fernando Tatis.
