Braves' Boone may seek trade

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Braves second baseman Bret Boone says he may ask to be traded because the team hasn't offered to sweeten his contract. Boone must decide by Thursday whether to file a trade demand, his right as a veteran traded during a multiyear contract. He made $2.9 million in 1999 and is set to make $3.75 million in 2000. The Braves have an option worth $4 million in 2001, but Boone hoped to have his contract renegotiated to pay him closer to $5 million annually. Boone said Monday that his agent met with Braves general manager John Schuerholz last week. "There's been no progress. Zero," he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm going to do what I think is best for me. We'll see. I may well say I'm doing nothing." Boone said he didn't expect the team to make him any offers. "I'm not sitting here saying I'm gone," Boone said. "I'm saying I've got some things to think about." Boone, acquired from Cincinnati in 1998, hit .252 with 20 home runs and 63 RBIs in 1999.
