Braves' Rocker to make spring debut Posted: Tuesday March 14, 2000 09:11 AM
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- John Rocker is scheduled to pitch in his first game of the spring Tuesday night as the Atlanta Braves play host to the Detroit Tigers in an exhibition game. Rocker is to pitch the ninth inning, taking the mound against another team for the first time since being suspended for his notorious comments in Sports Illustrated. The left-hander said Monday that he was eager to return. "Spring training is kind of fun," Rocker said. "You're trying to get back in the groove." He said he expected no trouble. "My teammates are fine. The fans in Atlanta are fine. I couldn't really care less what people who are out there criticizing me think. People that are close to me support me. That's all I need," Rocker said.
