CLEVELAND (AP) -- Chuck Finley might not have to worry about anyone breaking this major league record.

The left-hander, already the only pitcher in baseball history to twice strike out four batters in an inning, did it for the third time Sunday in his first home start for the Cleveland Indians.

After giving up a leadoff single to Luis Alicea, Finley struck out Tom Evans for the first out of the third inning. The left-hander then struck out Royce Clayton and fanned Chad Curtis, who took first on a passed ball by catcher Einar Diaz.

Following a single to Ivan Rodriguez, Finley made history by striking out Rafael Palmeiro on a 3-2 pitch.

Finley is the 18th pitcher in the American League history to strike out four in an inning, and the first since he did it in the first inning against Detroit on Aug. 15 last season while pitching for Anaheim.

On May 15 of last season in New York, Finley struck out four New York Yankees in the third inning.

The last Indians pitcher to strike out four in an inning was Paul Shuey, against Detroit on May 14, 1994.

The feat has been accomplished 37 times in baseball history.
