NEW YORK (AP) -- Oakland first baseman Jason Giambi led New York's Tino Martinez by 410 votes in the closest voting for any starting position for next month's All-Star game.

Giambi had 235,944 votes in totals released Tuesday by the commissioner's office and Martinez had 235,534. Cleveland's Jim Thome was third with 190,005.

The Yankees had the No. 2 vote-getter at all four infield positions and at catcher, while Bernie Williams led outfielders, with Paul O'Neill fifth.

Texas catcher Ivan Rodriguez (665,909) has the biggest lead, with the Jorge Posada (264,347) second.

Cleveland second baseman Roberto Alomar (570,913) also had a big lead, with Chuck Knoblauch (220,816) second.

Baltimore's Cal Ripken, who has been in 16 consecutive All-Star games -- all as a starter -- led third basemen at 457,096 followed by Scott Brosius at 203,325.

Seattle's Alex Rodriguez (420,378) led shortstops, followed by Derek Jeter (370,279) and Boston's Nomar Garciaparra (301,044).

Williams led the outfielders at 426,319, followed by Kansas City's Jermaine Dye (409,575), Cleveland's Manny Ramirez (324,430), Boston's Carl Everett (278,235) and O'Neill (267,812).

Piazza leads National League All-Star voting

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mike Piazza was the leading vote-getter in the latest results of fan voting for the NL All-Star team, and Sammy Sosa moved into the top three among outfielders.

Piazza, the only New York Mets player among the leaders, received 648,946 votes, more than three times as many as the No. 2 catcher, Pittsburgh's Jason Kendall (179,406). Piazza, a seven-time All-Star, has started the last six All-Star games for the NL.

Ken Griffey Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds, a 10-time All-Star for Seattle before the Mariners dealt him in February, led NL outfielders with 547,224, followed by San Francisco's Barry Bonds (424,156) and Sosa (422,643), the only Chicago Cubs player among the top three at any position.

Jim Edmonds of the St. Louis Cardinals, who was among the top three last week, dropped to fifth at 394,844, just behind Montreal's Vladimir Guerrero (397,890).

Mark McGwire of the Cardinals (502,263) led at first base, with Atlanta's Andres Galarraga (290,291) second.

Houston's Craig Biggio (254,657) led second basemen, followed by Edgardo Alfonzo of the Mets (207,898).

Atlanta's Chipper Jones (382,869) was the leader at third, followed by New York's Robin Ventura (178,647).

Cincinnati's Barry Larkin (344,366) led at shortstop, followed by New York's Rey Ordonez (255,064), who broke his left forearm last week and probably is sidelined until mid-July.

Voting continues through June 27 at ballparks and July 1 on the Internet.

Starters for the July 11 game at Atlanta's Turner Field will be announced July 4, with reserves picked the following day.
