Piazza, the only New York Mets player among the leaders, received 648,946 votes, more than three times as many as the No. 2 catcher, Pittsburgh's Jason Kendall (179,406). Piazza, a seven-time All-Star, has started the last six All-Star games for the NL. Ken Griffey Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds, a 10-time All-Star for Seattle before the Mariners dealt him in February, led NL outfielders with 547,224, followed by San Francisco's Barry Bonds (424,156) and Sosa (422,643), the only Chicago Cubs player among the top three at any position. Jim Edmonds of the St. Louis Cardinals, who was among the top three last week, dropped to fifth at 394,844, just behind Montreal's Vladimir Guerrero (397,890). Mark McGwire of the Cardinals (502,263) led at first base, with Atlanta's Andres Galarraga (290,291) second.
