NEW YORK (AP) -- Some recent and prominent confrontations by players, managers and coaches with major league umpires, along with the penalties:

July 4, 2000 -- Atlanta manager Bobby Cox bumped umpire Derryl Cousins' side with his elbow in a game against Montreal. Cox was suspended for five games, and is currently serving the penalty.

Oct. 9, 1999 -- New York Mets third base coach Cookie Rojas shoved umpire Charlie Williams in the chest while arguing a fair-or-foul call in Game 4 of the NL division series against Arizona. Rojas was suspended for five games, which took effect in the NLCS.

Sept. 28, 1999 -- Mets reliever Dennis Cook bumped the cap of plate umpire Alfonzo Marquez in a game against Atlanta. Cook was suspended for one game and fined $2,000.

May 31, 1999 -- Detroit catcher Brad Ausmus and manager Larry Parrish bumped umpire Chuck Meriwether after Tigers pitcher Matt Anderson was ejected in a game at Boston. Ausmus served a one-game suspension and was fined $500, and Parrish was suspended for two games.

July 5, 1998 -- Mets reliever John Franco bumped Angel Hernandez after the umpire called an Atlanta runner safe at home for the game-winning run. Franco was suspended three games and fined $1,500.

Sept. 27, 1996 -- Baltimore second baseman Roberto Alomar spit in the face of plate umpire John Hirschbeck during a game at Toronto. Alomar was suspended for five games, though he was allowed to remain with the Orioles during the AL playoffs. The penalty took effect at the start of the next season.

April 30, 1988 -- Cincinnati manager Pete Rose bumped and shoved umpire Dave Pallone during a ninth-inning argument in a game against the Mets, bringing a shower of debris from fans at Riverfront Stadium. Rose was suspended for 30 days and fined $10,000.

May 1, 1980 -- Pittsburgh third baseman Bill Madlock shoved his glove in the face of plate umpire Jerry Crawford after being called out on a check swing in a game against Montreal. Madlock was suspended for 15 days and fined $5,000.
