TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A warrant was issued Friday for the arrest of troubled former baseball star Darryl Strawberry, who was missing from the drug treatment center where he has been serving two-years' house arrest.

Strawberry, 39, disappeared after leaving a drug treatment session on Thursday night and has not been seen since, said Joe Papy, head of the Florida Department of Corrections regional office.

Papy said Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies and a fugitive apprehension team have been looking for Strawberry, but have not been able to locate him.

He's "a fugitive and he's wanted," Papy said.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office sought the warrant Friday. Strawberry has been out of jail since November when he was fitted with an electronic monitor to alert officials if he was to leave the treatment center where he has been living under house arrest.

Papy said Strawberry, who is battle cancer alongside his drug addiction, had been doing well.

"All of his drug screens were clear," Papy said. "Things were going well."

Strawberry was last seen Thursday between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. as he finished a drug counseling session. He was to return directly to the apartment he occupies at the center.

When the electronic monitor went off, a probation officer went to the center and waited for Strawberry until 2 a.m. The electronic monitor only alerts officials that a prisoner is not where he is supposed to be, but can't help authorities locate him.

Papy could not say what Strawberry's counselor reported regarding the treatment session. He also declined to answer questions about Strawberry's health, citing confidentiality laws.

The one-time All-Star and suspended New York Yankee has had continued legal problems while serving his sentence on a drug possession and prostitute solicitation charge. Strawberry was arrested twice last year, including an October arrest for leaving the treatment center for a drug binge.
