BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Sewing machines at New Era Cap Co. on Friday began stitching American flags onto the caps major league baseball players will wear when they resume play next week.

New Era marketing director John DeWaal said the cap maker's plants in Jackson, Ala., and Buffalo will handle the order from the league. Flags about an inch-high will appear on the caps' left side.

The Derby-based company is the official supplier of caps for the major leagues.

Baseball will resume Monday following a six-day break caused by Tuesday's attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
