Sep. 3, 2002 Chavez has been recalled from Triple-A Ottawa by the Montreal Expos. The outfielder batted .340 with four homers and 41 RBI with the minor league club this season. He also had 20 stolen bases.
May. 8, 2002 The Montreal Expos have recalled Chavez from Triple-A Ottawa, where the outfielder was batting .363 with two homers and 13 RBI. He will replace Peter Bergeron as the Expos' center fielder. He will also bat leadoff.
Jul. 6, 2001 Chavez has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha by the Kansas City Royals to make room for Mark Quinn, who was activated from the disabled list. Chavez batted .219 with five RBI in 25 games.
May. 30, 2001 The Royals have purchased Chavez' contract from Double-A Wichita. The outfielder will take the spot left open with Sal Fasano's designation for assignment.
