CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds hope to avoid
athree-game losing streak when they return to Cinergy Field on
Tuesday to begin a mid-week series against the Florida Marlins.
On Monday, Cincinnati concluded a four-game set against St.
Louis with a second straight defeat, 7-3. After going 1-3 in the
series, the Reds are just three games ahead of the Cardinals
for the lead in the National League Central.
Cincinnati starter Jimmy Haynes was tagged for seven runs and
six hits in five-plus innings. He walked two and struck out
Cincinnati last dropped three straight contests during a
season-high four-game losing streak from May 2-5.
Chris Reitsma (2-0, 2.85 ERA) did not earn a decision in his
last start for Cincinnati, a 2-1 victory at Milwaukee on
Thursday in which he surrendered only one run and four hits over
Reitsma is 1-1 with a 12.27 ERA in two games, including one
start, against the Marlins.
On Sunday, Josh Beckett pitched seven dominant innings and
Preston Wilson snapped a tie in the eighth with a three-run
homer as Florida avoided its first sweep of the season with a
4-2 victory over San Francisco. Beckett allowed just one run in

A.J. Burnett (5-3, 2.94) will toe the rubber for the Marlins. In
his last start, a 7-2 loss at Colorado last Wednesday, he
allowed five runs -- including three homers -- and eight hits in
6 2/3 innings.
Burnett is 1-2 with a 7.06 ERA in four career appearances
against the Reds.
This is the first game between the teams this season. Cincinnati
went 4-2 against Florida last year, including a 3-0 mark at
