ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Kevin Millwood tried to extend his personal winning streak to eight games on Wednesday when he takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a doubleheader against the New York Mets at Turner Field.

Millwood has not lost since July 26, going 7-0 with a 1.82 ERA in his last eight starts. He has allowed two runs or less seven times during the streak and has given up just 11 earned runs in 54 1/3 innings.

Millwood (16-6, 3.06 ERA) recorded his first shutout of the season against Montreal on Friday, giving up just three hits while striking out five. He has won 14 of his last 15 decisions since losing four straight from April 22-May 18.

The 27-year-old righthander is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA in three appearances against the Mets this season, including two starts. He is 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA in 14 career appearances against New York.

The Mets hand the ball to Steve Trachsel (9-10, 3.36), who is 5-8 with a 5.10 ERA in 16 career starts against the Braves, including a 1-1 mark in two starts this season.

Trachsel snapped a three-game losing streak against Florida on Thursday, when he allowed one run and six hits in seven innings. He has given up six runs - four earned - over 25 innings over his last four starts.

The Mets had a season-high seven-game winning streak snapped in Tuesday's series opener. They squandered a 5-0 lead as the Braves rallied for a 12-6 victory.

Andruw Jones belted a pair of homers and drove in four runs as Atlanta won for the eighth time in 10 games.
