Padres visit Giants in battle of struggling squads

San Diego (8-11) at San Francisco (8-10), 10:15 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants look to avenge last week's two-game sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres when the teams square off in the opener of a three-game series Monday.

Noah Lowry (1-1, 4.58 ERA), who is coming off his first career loss after opening with seven straight wins dating to 2004, will start for the Giants. The 24-year-old lefthander allowed only two runs in six innings on Wednesday but lost, 2-1, to Arizona.

The Giants have lost five of seven games, including two of three this past weekend to the Milwaukee Brewers . In Sunday's rubber game, Omar Vizquel and J.T. Snow had three hits apiece for San Francisco, but Carlos Lee smashed a pair of two-run homers to lead the Brewers to an 8-5 victory.

Woody Williams (1-1, 5.16), looking to build upon his best start of the season, takes the mound for the Padres. Williams allowed six hits in seven scoreless innings against Los Angeles on Wednesday but did not factor into the decision, a 3-1 loss.

On Sunday, San Diego lost an 8-6 decision against Arizona as Padres starter Brian Lawrence was shelled for six runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The Padres have dropped three straight and eight of 11. Two of the wins came last week as they outscored the Giants, 14-2, in the sweep.
