Giants turn to Schmidt; look for first win vs Padres

San Diego (9-11) at San Francisco (8-11), 10:15 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants have had a lot of success when Jason Schmidt pitches. They hope that trend continues.

The Giants look for their first win against the San Diego Padres this season when the teams meet for the fourth time on Tuesday.

San Francisco is 74-30 in games started by Schmidt (2-1, 3.34 ERA) since he joined the club on July 30, 2001. The righthander had one bad inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, when he gave up three runs in the second and did not get a decision during a seven-inning performance, an eventual 4-3 Giants win.

The Padres counter with Adam Eaton (2-1, 2.91), who allowed just one run and five hits in five innings in a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. He has not yielded a home run in his last three starts.

Geoff Blum broke a 3-for-18 slump with two hits, including a home run and three RBI, to help San Diego break a three-game losing streak with a 5-3 triumph over San Francisco on Monday.

Phil Nevin has a 10-game hitting streak for the Padres, who have outscored the Giants, 17-7, in the prior three meetings.
