Padres host Rockies in battle of struggling clubs
Colorado (6-16) at San Diego (11-14), 10:05 pm EDT
SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- A pair of struggling teams meet Monday when the
San Diego Padres
host the
Colorado Rockies
in the opening game of a three-game series.
The Padres have lost six of nine contests, including Sunday's 5-2 setback to the
Arizona Diamondbacks
. San Diego managed just six hits as Arizona's
Javier Vazquez
tossed a complete game and struck out eight.
The Rockies have lost five consecutive games, including a three-game sweep this weekend by the
Los Angeles Dodgers
, in which the Rockies scored a total of six runs. Colorado managed just six hits in a 2-1 loss to
Derek Lowe
and Los Angeles on Sunday.
Adam Eaton
(2-1, 2.93 ERA) will try to turn around San Diego's fortunes. The righthander has allowed three earned runs or less in his five starts but is 5-9 with a 6.57 career ERA in 19 starts against Colorado - his most against any opponent.
Jeff Francis
(1-0, 4.37) returns to the site of his first major league win for the Rockies. The lefthander tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings on September 5, 2004 to pick up his first victory. He also notched his second career win against San Diego and owns a 1.74 ERA in two starts against the Padres.
