Peavy puts winning streak on line against Marlins
Florida (19-13) at San Diego (20-16), 10:05 pm EDT
SAN DIEGO (Ticker) --
Jake Peavy
puts his winning streak on the line when the
San Diego Padres
host the
Florida Marlins
on Saturday in the second game of their three-game series.
Last year's ERA champion, Peavy (2-0, 2.76) has not lost since last September 17 - going 5-0 in that span.
Despite the streak, the righthander has been average in his last three starts. Peavy has yielded 12 earned runs in his last three starts and has not picked up a decision since April 18. Last Monday, he allowed five runs - four earned - and 10 hits at Cincinnati.
The Padres edged Florida, 3-2 in the series opener for their ninth win in 11 games.
Florida will send veteran lefthander
Al Leiter
(1-3, 6.67) to the mound on Saturday. He has surrendered eight runs in two of his last three starts, including Sunday's home loss to Colorado.
The Marlins have split their last 10 games.
