Padres seek to complete sweep of Marlins

Florida (19-14) at San Diego (21-16), 4:05 pm EDT

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres can complete their second straight home sweep when they face the Florida Marlins on Sunday.

The streaking Padres have won 10 of their last 12 games and allowed a total of just five runs in their three-game winning streak.

Jake Peavy , the defending ERA champion, pitched seven strong innings in a 2-1 win over the Marlins on Saturday. Peavy improved to 3-0 after allowing a run and five hits while striking out eight and walking just one.

Brian Lawrence (2-4, 5.09 ERA), who turned 29 on Saturday, will try to continue San Diego's recent run of strong starts. After going 1-3 with a 7.65 ERA over his first four starts, Lawrence is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA in his last three. He has both of his wins and a 1.57 ERA at home.

Florida, which has lost four of its last six, turns to A.J. Burnett (3-3, 2.70), who has lost his last two starts despite allowing just five runs in 13 innings.

Burnett yielded two runs in seven innings while striking out nine in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Monday. That marked the sixth time in seven starts this year that the 6-4 righthander has given up two runs.

On May 12, 2001, Burnett threw a no-hitter while walking a career-high nine in his only previous start in San Diego.
