Peavy opposes Webb in battle of unbeaten hurlers

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- A pair of undefeated pitchers square off when the
San Diego Padres
wrap up their three game series against the
Arizona Diamondbacks
on Thursday.
San Diego's
Jake Peavy
(4-0, 2.29 ERA), the reigning National League ERA champ, got an extra day of rest since his last outing. He struck out 10 and gave up three hits in seven scoreless innings against the
Seattle Mariners
on Friday.
Brandon Webb
(6-0, 3.32) had a no-hitter for 6 1/3 innings in a 6-2 win over the
Detroit Tigers
on Friday. He worked eight innings and allowed two runs, six hits and struck out eight.
After losing to the Padres on Tuesday, Arizona moved past San Diego into first place by one-half game in the National League West Division with a 12-11 victory on Wednesday.
Royce Clayton
and
Tony Clark
had three RBI apiece for the Diamondbacks, who have won five of seven.
Khalil Greene
had a season-high four hits for San Diego, which has nine wins in its last 12 outings.
