Eaton, Padres seek sweep over Schmidt, Giants

San Diego (30-19) at San Francisco (23-25), 4:05 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Adam Eaton takes the mound in search of his seventh consecutive win as the San Diego Padres look to complete a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Eaton (7-1, 3.49 ERA) has posted a 6-0 mark with a 3.59 ERA over his last seven starts. The 27-year-old righthander allowed three runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings in San Diego's 9-5 triumph over Arizona on Tuesday. Eaton is 2-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 10 career starts against San Francisco.

Jason Schmidt (3-1, 4.79) counters for the Giants, who will attempt to avoid being swept at home for the first time this season.

Schmidt yielded three runs and five hits against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday in his first start since returning from the disabled list. The Giants' ace struck out seven and did not walk a batter. He is 10-6 with a 4.34 ERA in 21 career starts against the Padres.

After pounding 15 hits in a 9-3 triumph Friday, San Diego rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to post a 5-3 victory on Saturday. Phil Nevin blasted a three-run homer for the Padres, who have won eight of their last 11.
