Peavy to celebrate birthday against Brewers
Milwaukee (24-26) at San Diego (32-19), 10:05 pm EDT
SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - The
San Diego Padres
turn to ace
Jake Peavy
in an effort to set a club mark for consecutive wins at home when they host the
Milwaukee Brewers
on Tuesday in the second of a three-game set.
Miguel Ojeda
ripped a pinch-hit RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Padres a 2-1 win in the opener Monday. It was San Diego's 10th straight victory at Petco Park, matching the franchise record for consecutive wins at home.
That mark has been accomplished four times in the team's history but never surpassed. The Padres have a great chance to eclipse the record with Peavy (5-0, 2.00 ERA) on the mound.
The 6-foot righthander turns 24 on Tuesday and can celebrate in fine fashion if he is able to duplicate his prior start. Peavy threw a two-hitter for his first career shutout in a 10-0 win over the
Arizona Diamondbacks
on Thursday.
The Brewers, who have lost three straight after a four-game winning streak, give the ball to
Wes Obermueller
(1-0, 2.43). The 28-year-old allowed a run and three hits in six innings in a 6-5 loss to the
Minnesota Twins
on May 22.
In six games and two starts on the road this year, Obermueller is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA.
